Dean Nancy Staudt issues an open letter to the Community
We are all deeply saddened by the events that took place 3 months ago in Ferguson, Missouri —a municipality less than 10 miles from our Law School. As Washington University Chancellor Mark Wrighton has noted, the tragedy has highlighted the problems of racism, health disparities, and uneven access to quality education, legal support, and economic opportunity. As the community awaits the state grand jury’s decision on whether to indict the police officer involved in the shooting of Michael Brown, we at Washington University School of Law are actively engaged in ways to help our community. Building on our longstanding tradition of public service, our faculty, staff, and students are playing an important role in both providing legal services to those in need and educating the community about the many underlying issues.
