"Celebrating the 65th Anniversary of Shelley v. Kraemer and the Legacy of Margeret Bush Wilson: Where Are We Now?"

Tuesday, October 22, 2013, 4 p.m., Anheuser-Bush Hall, Bryan Cave Moot Courtroom (No. 310)
Honorary Alumna Margaret Bush Wilson’s legacy and the 65th anniversary of the landmark SCOTUS ruling in Shelley v. Kraemer that declared restrictive housing covenants unconstitutional will be explored in a 1.0 credit CLE event featuring Theodore M. Shaw, professor of professional practice at Columbia University School of Law and one of the country’s top civil rights lawyers. The event is free and open to alumni, students, faculty, staff, and the community. Read more...

Access to Equal Justice Colloquium

Friday, November 1, 2013, 12-4 pm, in Anheuser-Busch Hall, Bryan Cave Courtroom (No. 310)   

The Clinical Education Program hosts the annual colloquium, in conjunction with the 40th anniversary celebration of the Clinical Education Program.  (4.0 MCLE) 
The program opens with Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness, who will be speaking at noon.  To register, contact Katie Herr at kmherr@wulaw.wustl.edu. This event will conclude with a Happy Hour in the Courtyard, where we will make a point to toast newly admitted graduates to the Bar!  Free and open to the public.

Tyrrell WIlliams Lecture: Professor Stephen Legomsky 
April 11, 2013:  Stephen H. Legomsky is an expert in U.S., comparative, and international immigration and refugee law and policy. Currently on leave from the faculty, he has been serving as chief counsel for United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) since fall 2011. In his role at USCIS, he is serving as the principal legal advisor to the agency that will be charged with implementing the central components of proposed new comprehensive immigration legislation. He will be speaking on “Immigration and the Role of the Government Attorney.”  more... 

Law School Alumnus: Arsalan Iftikhar 
April 19, 2013: Arsalan Iftikhar, AB '99, JD ’03, lectured on “Islam and Muslims as American Political Football,” as part of Washington University’s Danforth Center of Religion and Politics lecture series. An international human rights lawyer and global media commentator, Iftikhar is the founder of theMuslimGuy.com and author of the book, Islamic Pacifism: Global Muslims in the Post-Osama Era.
