Grants and Pro Bono Partnerships
The Alternative Dispute Resolution Program has garnered two grants to fund community and international dispute resolution curriculum development and outreach programs. The ADR Program was awarded a three-year $244,302 grant from the U.S. State Department to foster a faculty exchange and resource development program with the Katmandu School of Law and non-governmental organizations in Nepal.
The ADR Program also was awarded a two-year $90,000 shared grant from the ASC Foundation for a collaborative project with the International Institute of Metropolitan St. Louis, “Finding Peace and Security in a New Land: Community Mediation Training for Ethnic Leaders.” Through this project, the ADR Program faculty and the Community Justice Clinic students provide mediation training and resource materials to immigrant and refugee leaders in the St. Louis community.
Through a partnership with U.S. Arbitration & Mediation Midwest, Inc., the ADR Program provides pro bono, half day CLE programs at the School of Law for lawyers, students, and the community. The next seminar will be “Winning in Litigation and Dispute Resolution: Critical Decision Making for Litigators” on April 20, 2007. For more information on upcoming seminars, please call Amy Staten at (314) 231-4642, or e-mail: astaten@usam-midwest.com.
Through a partnership with the law firm of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal, LLP, Pro Bono Project, members of that firm serve as co-mediators in family, juvenile victim offender, and community dispute mediations in conjunction with the ADR Program and the Civil Rights & Community Justice Clinic.
