Lawyering Skills Competitions
The Alternative Dispute Resolution Program sponsors three lawyering skills competitions for students: the A.B.A. Client Counseling, Negotiation, and Mediation Competitions. Joshua Altman, JD ‘08, Ross Blankenship, JD ‘08 Michele Gardner, JD ’07, and Ann Thomas, JD ’08, were finalists in the 2007 A.B.A. Regional Mediation Competition in Minneapolis. Blankenship and Gardner won the Regional Championship and will be representing the school at the National Competition in Washington, D.C. in April. Tiffany Haigler, JD ‘06, and Harrison Lord, JD ‘06, won top honors in the Regional and finished third in the National Competition in Atlanta in 2006. Heather Navarro, JD ’07, May Yeh, JD ‘08, Christopher Shim, JD ‘08, and Yeena Yoon JD ‘07, won the intramural Negotiation Competition in fall 2006, and represented the school in the A.B.A. Regional Negotiation Competition. Simeon Papacostas, JD ‘08, and Elizabeth Peters, JD ‘08, won the intramural competition and advanced to the 2007 A.B.A. Regional Client Counseling Competition. Professor Ann Davis Shields is the faculty advisor for the Client Counseling and Negotiation Competitions. C.J. Larkin, Karen Tokarz, and adjunct Mike Geigerman assist with the Mediation Competition. The Dispute Resolution Society, a new student organization, assists the Alternative Dispute Resolution Program with programs and competitions.
