Curriculum

The program’s growing curriculum includes the Community Justice Clinic (6 cr.), in which students receive mediation training, observe expert mediators, and engage in actual mediations. 

Negotiation (1 cr.) is an intensive, short-course offered to 45 students each semester. Students learn negotiation skills through simulations in which students negotiate and observe their classmates negotiate a simple sales contract, a retainer agreement between an attorney and a client, and a complex, multi-party dispute.

Negotiation Theory & Practice (3 cr.) is designed to

Mediation and Dispute Resolution Theory & Practice (3 cr.), offered eight times a year in 16 person classes,  explores the field of dispute resolution and focuses on the development of the skills necessary for attorneys to be successful as advocates, negotiators, and mediators.

In Pretrial Practice & Settlement (3cr.) offered 14 times a year in 12 person classes, students engage in simulations and written exercises from the initial client interview stage through settlement.

Advanced Mediation and Advocacy (3 cr.)

Business Negotiation Theory & Practice (3 cr.) is designed to improve students’ abilities to analyze and conduct business negotiations in law office practice, government, corporate, and other business settings.

In Arbitration Theory & Practice (3 cr.), students develop the analytical and interpersonal skills necessary to be successful arbitrators and advocates in arbitrations.

In Construction Law Practice, Drafting & Dispute Resolution (2 cr.), students engage in practice, drafting and dispute resolution exercises in construction development, design, and contracting.

In Securities Law Litigation & Arbitration (2 cr.), students engage in draftings and simulations that prepare students for securities litigation and arbitration.
